Best Tapas in Murcia - La Bicicleta

When travelling there's nothing better than stopping for a drink and tasting the local food.  Who couldn't resist trying the local Murcia tapas named after a bicycle?

This tapa comes in 3 variations The Marinero (Sailor), The Marinera (Sailoress) and The Bicicleta (Bicycle).

Firstly the base of the tapa is a rosquilla which is a type of crunchy breadstick.  Secondly a layer of Russian salad is placed on top (potatoes, tuna, mayonnaise, eggs, peas & carrots).  The 3rd step is what differentiates the three:

The Marinero (Right) is topped with a Boquerón (anchovy in vinegar).

The Marinera (Centre) is topped with a salted anchovy.

The Bicicleta (Left) is served without a topping.

We have to confess that we have been unable to find out why it's named after a bicycle.
